The Summer of Projects
This summer has been filled with many projects for a variety of clients. The folks at AbbVie have been great to work with and I shot people in the studio for them for two different campaigns. I also did architectural and lifestyle images for The Whitman in Savannah along with tourism images of the area. There were projects for retailers and a few musicians for their upcoming CDs. And of course work on my next book project Twenty/Ninety-Five about all five of the Great Lakes.
In Georgia I was part of the team to shoot architectural and lifestyle images for The Whitman, a historic mansion across from Forsythe Park which has been meticulously renovated and is now a beautiful event space for corporate events, weddings, family gatherings and anything you can imagine. We had over 40 people on set the days for those shoots as art directors, and talent for the production. You can view some of those images on the Whitman website.
While in the Savannah area I also shot many images for use in tourism marketing and fine art prints. As this project was in conjunction with Jill Buckner we both explored the city. It is always interesting to shoot a city or area you don’t know because you must do some research into what is around and how to portray it in the best way. It is also a joy to explore a place for the first time and record your impressions of the place so others may want to enjoy it as well. We shot the old historic part by the river front to the new bridge across the river and a few shots of the shipping and harbor area. In addition we went to the ocean beaches and the Atlantic Coastal areas and of course went to the famous Wormsloe State Park and Bonaventure Cemetery.

There were a lot more projects we don’t have space to talk about now but will in the future.
But I have to say the highlight of the summer was my son’s wedding! He and Kelly married on the shores of Lake Michigan at Illinois Beach State Park on a beautiful summer’s day in July.
Enjoy,

Lighthouse Beach Poster now available!
If it is summer in Evanston it means hitting the beach! And to commemorate this you can now get my new poster of 15 images from Lighthouse Beach. These images were done over a number of years as part of the Great Lakes Project and show’s the moods of all four seasons.
As part of this project I have spent a lot of time at Lighthouse Beach for many reasons. One, I live about a mile away and have been going to this beach since I was a kid. So for me there is a lot of emotional connection to this beach. It is where I have played as a kid, played with my kids and spent many hours alone looking out over the water. And for the last 30+ years have seen it through a photographer’s eye. The old pier, just to the north of the beach has provided many opportunities for images. Sometimes I am there at dusk alone, other times I might join another photographer or two shooting there as well. It has become a popular spot.
If you’ve been following this blog you know I have been trying to get a shot of the full moonrise with the pier in the frame. To date it has eluded me. Someday I shall prevail, I hope, and get the shot – which is so perfect in my head. Stay tuned.
In the meantime if you are a fan of the beaches around Chicago, and especially in Evanston or even Lighthouse Beach then you need this poster! Purchase it online at http://www.quietlightpublishing.com/ for only $45.00! The poster is 24”x36” and is printed on archival paper – the same as my fine art prints.
Enjoy!

It’s been a busy few weeks here, well actually months. After returning from Patagonia we made a trip down to the Smokies to shoot more for the book project on the park – more on that in a later post – and have also been helping a friend get her new book to market, as well as getting images to our stock photo sales sites. It seems you never have enough time to work on images after you return! That is the reason you haven’t seen much from even the Utah shoots in Zion, Bryce and Capital Reef National Parks from back in January or from the
Patagonia shoots. I just haven’t had time to work on them!
We will also be announcing soon our new schedule for our Photo Workshops and trips! Stay tuned as we finalize the locations and dates for this summer’s, falls, and winter’s workshops! And if you have any thoughts on where you would like to travel to with us let us know! These workshops will include time in the field shooting and time in the class room looking at what you’ve shot and learning some tips on Photoshop and digital imaging. Stay tuned!
Peace,
Richard
